About Benoquin Cream

Description :

Benoquin Cream contains the active ingredient monobenzone, a potent topical depigmenting agent. It works by permanently destroying melanocytes (the cells that produce skin pigment). It is prescribed to even out skin tone in patients with extensive vitiligo by removing the remaining normal pigmentation.

Uses
  • Vitiligo Management: Used for the final, permanent depigmentation of normal skin in individuals with disseminated (widespread) vitiligo.
  • It is not a cosmetic bleach for general skin lightening or treating hyperpigmentation like freckles, melasma, or sunspots.

Side Effects
While some reactions may occur, many are temporary or manageable:
  • Common: Mild skin irritation, burning sensation, intense itching, redness, dryness, or flaking.
  • Serious: Severe allergic reactions (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face/throat).
  • Long-term: Permanent, irreversible loss of skin color in all treated areas.

Warnings
  • Irreversible Depigmentation: The loss of skin color is permanent. You must not use this unless your doctor has diagnosed extensive vitiligo and you desire permanent pigment removal.
  • Sun Sensitivity: Removing pigment leaves the skin highly vulnerable to severe sunburn. Strict use of broad-spectrum sunscreens (SPF 50+) and protective clothing is mandatory.
  • Contraindications: Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 12 years old. It must never be used for mild cosmetic skin bleaching
